When you were a kid, what did you say you wanted to be when you grew up?
My young daughter the other day asked me why all the boys in her class say they want to become policemen someday. I told her it was because God has planted in the hearts of boys and men the desire to protect and save others, and being a policeman is the way these boys know how to do that.
I wanted to be a military pilot, flying fighter jets. I'm old enough this was well before Top Gun, the original one, ever came out. I wanted to be a fighter pilot before Tom Cruise made it look cool. If I was going to protect others, I wanted to do it flying high and fast.
Whatever it was you said you wanted to be, what was it about that role that appealed to you? It's worth reflecting on it, because insight into what excited you as a child can be very revealing about what will drive and power you into fulfillment now and into the future.
